Civil Liberties Issues: Funny But Scary Movie

April 8th, 2007

Yesterday, while checking out one of my regular blog sites, I ran across a link to a short (about 2 minutes long), humorous but scary movie apparently titled “Pizza” and produced by the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union).

It serves as a good reminder of where we may be headed when people embrace the idea of a total surveillance society and allow governments and corporations to invade our privacy and collect personal information about us without any serious opposition. Although this little Flash presentation seems somewhat satirical, some of the things that it touches on are already happening; national ID card proposals are already underway, “unhealthy” foods are being legislated against in several major cities and in public (i.e., state controlled) schools, and a wide array of threats to our civil liberties have been instigated by the Bush administration and Congress, supposedly in the name of “national security” or the so-called “war on terror”.

If you are having problems with playing the movie, you can access its original source page and description at http://www.aclu.org/. If you are able to hear and play audio on your system, you should have your sound turned up to an audible level in order to experience the full effects of the movie.
