CorpusTrader.com Updates Site, Makes Improvements

August 5th, 2007

The CorpusTrader.com classified ad site that I mentioned earlier has sent out an email update announcing some improvements to the way advertisements will be handled on the site. The main benefit is that it will now be easier to keep our ads online continuously without having to worry about them getting deleted or having to go through the hassle of typing in our ad text more than once. There are also plans in the works to improve the Google Maps feature for garage sales and real estate sales. Here is the actual text of the update:

An update on some positive changes to CorpusTrader.com

I wanted to let you know about some updates that will be happening over the next month or two. We are adding some features to the web site that will benefit everyone who places ads.The primary feature we are adding is the ability for the ads to be “unpublished” at the end of the 30 day expiration time. Currently, all ads are deleted when the 30 days have passed. This is part of the original software that is used to power CorpusTrader.com. We are developing some modifications that will enable ads to either be published or unpublished. This means that if your item is not sold by the end of the 30 days, your ad will not automatically go away. It will revert to an UNPUBLISHED status. You will then be able to go back into your ads and re-publish the ad for another 30 days. This is better than just having the ads be deleted and force you to re-enter all of your information back into CorpusTrader.com. That is what I want to avoid. I want to give you, the user, more flexibility in controlling your ads.

Until the updates have been implemented, I am removing the 30 day expiration of all ads. Your ad will stay on the site until you remove it or until the updates are implemented and they UNPUBLISH the ad. All ads will not expire at this point. I will update you when this changes and give you plenty of notice.

Additionally, notification of expiring ads will be set for 2-3 days before they expire. This will give you more time to check your ads and remind you of your ads expiring before they actually do. Currently, a notification e-mail is sent when the ad expires. This will change when the new updates are implemented.

One other addition. I had to remove the Garage Sale and Real Estate Google maps from the site temporarily. This was due to the highly manual process of entering all the information about each garage sale and real estate items every day and ensuring they are accurate. This will be alleviated, hopefully in the next update. This is a more technically complicated update to implement. However, once we have verified it is working, we will notify you via e-mail about the feature.

Thank you for making CorpusTrader.com so successful in such a short amount of time. Please continue to visit the site and tell everyone you know about us. We are making every effort to get the word out, but it is sometimes slow. Any help is greatly appreciated. I want to make this site THE place to visit for classified ads!

Thanks,

Stephen

UPDATE 2/7/11: Unfortunately, it seems that CorpusTrader.com has gone offline. At this point I do not know exactly what happened, but today I noticed an “account suspended” page showing in the search results, and when I clicked through to the site there was a “server not found” error, so it seems that their hosting account was allowed to expire. Additionally, a Whois search reveals that the domain is no longer registered either. I suppose this means that I could pick up the domain myself and try to re-establish the old classified site or make something else out of it, but I’m not sure if it would be worth the trouble at this point. Meanwhile, if anyone knows what exactly happened to CorpusTrader.com, please let us know in the comment section below.
