High AdSense Keyword List

December 3rd, 2008

google-adsense-search-blog-monetize.jpgAfter doing some research earlier today, I noticed that many of you are looking for lists of high-paying keywords to use for AdSense monetization. This is understandable; after all, making money from advertising is the primary reason that many of us are creating and managing websites in the first place.

As you may have already read elsewhere, the value of developing and monetizing your site based on high AdSense keyword lists is questionable because the actual amount of money you will receive for ad clicks is affected by more than just the cost per click (CPC) of the keyword. This is particularly true with Google, where advertisers can specifically choose which sites to run their ads on, not to mention the fact that many of them will avoid the content network altogether. There is also Google’s “smart pricing” algorithm to contend with, which makes publisher revenues very difficult to predict even for a consistent set of keywords.

Nevertheless, looking at CPC values may be a good way of determining the potential of a keyword under ideal conditions. It never ceases to amaze me how much some folks are willing to pay for advertising around certain topics. For example, the topic being discussed here (making money from AdSense) actually has its fair share of high-paying keywords associated with it. In fact if we use Google’s Keyword Tool, we find out that the single word “adsense” carries a maximum CPC of $10.05. By looking at the related terms, we can find examples of even higher click values. Here is a list of the top 20 highest paying keywords related to the word “adsense”, sorted by cost per click (CPC).

Keyword CPC
google adsense help $15.55
www google adsense $13.21
google adsense forum $11.56
adsense help $11.14
adsense information $11.12
googles adsense $10.88
adsense google.com $10.86
google com adsense $10.86
adsense marketing $10.67
adsense blog $10.06
adsense account $10.03
adsense terms $9.46
google adsense $9.32
google adwords adsense $9.26
google’s adsense $9.08
adsense forum $8.88
google adsense pay $8.85
adwords adsense $8.48
adsense tool $7.69
google adsense revenue $7.60

It is important to realize that many of the above terms are quite competitive, meaning that as an ordinary blogger it will be difficult to rank high enough for them to attract significant levels of traffic. However, a strategy that I have used with some success is to use these kinds of keywords as a base for further research with the AdWords tool, drilling them down until you find some juicy long tail phrases with relatively little competition. Then I can write an article that targets the best long tail phrases to draw traffic according to bum marketing methodology.

After AdSense units are placed, the ads will often display with the more general variants of the targeted keywords (these higher-paying terms are often naturally embedded within the long tail phrases), thus allowing us to gain the advantages of both long tail traffic and relatively high CPC. This does not guarantee that we will be rolling around in Google cash, of course; there are still “smart pricing” issues, seasonal trends, and various other factors that affect our actual bottom line. However, we can use such a strategy to provide fertile ground for monetization and even use powerful software such as Keyword Elite to speed up the process. If we add a few backlinks and relevant affiliate products into the mix, we can definitely give ourselves a fighting chance in the make money blogging genre.
