Alternative Medicine vs. Conventional Medicine

August 2nd, 2009

alternative-conventional-medicine.jpgIt seems as though natural health care treatment is coming full circle today. It used to be the only treatment available until pharmacies surfaced in the mid 1800s. Now again, people are beginning to seek natural remedies for every variety of ailment from the common cold to life threatening diseases like cancer.

What Would Cause People to Seek Alternative Care?

What would be the reason that people would turn from medical doctors and chemically engineered pharmaceuticals to naturopaths, herbal remedies, and homeopathic treatments? Let’s take a look:

  1. The First Rule of Natural Care Givers — One major draw to natural care givers is the fact that their first rule is: “Do no harm.” This means that their treatments are designed to promote healing in every sense of the word, without the harmful side effects that most prescription drugs carry.
  2. People Are Seeking a Different Result — Most potentially fatal diseases have a near certain conclusion when treated with conventional medical treatments. It only makes sense that the similar situations that are treated in the same manner will have the same result. People have begun to seek a different result and that will only happen with a different treatment.
  3. You Are What You Eat — Naturopathic doctors understand that in Latin, doctor means teacher. They make it their responsibility to educate their patients in regard to living a healthy lifestyle. Just as medicines or herbs that go into your body cause a chemical reaction, so does food. By educating their patients regarding the foods that affect you in a positive manner and those that affect you in a negative manner, the patient who applies that knowledge will live a healthier life.
  4. Promote Self Healing — The human body is the most complex biochemical machine in existence. It is designed to heal itself and the natural care givers structure their treatments to stimulate and promote those healing capabilities in the body.
  5. Treat the Cause — While many conventional medical treatments focus on the symptoms, natural care givers actually work to determine the cause of the symptoms and then focus their efforts on resolving the source issue. This encompasses physical, spiritual, and emotional aspects of a person’s life.
  6. Money Matters — Another issue that frequently comes into play is the price of treatment. Those that don’t have medical insurance may find that the cost of conventional medical treatment for serious ailments to be very prohibitive and never-ending. Although natural treatments are by no means free, they tend to be less costly and because they work toward resolving the source problem, they are often shorter term or lifestyle adjustments.

The benefits of natural treatments over conventional medical treatments are many and far reaching. If you don’t like the means, methods, outcome, side effects, or price of conventional care for a particular ailment, you should certainly look into the natural care industry in greater depth.

i realize the dangers of alternative healing methods such as these, but I also realize how the major pharmaceutical industry holds an oligarchy over the field. Their expensive pills are almost always over priced since they single handedly control the supply and therefore also control the demand.
