lozenges-make-your-own.jpgHomemade throat lozenges are the perfect way to naturally soothe a dry, irritated throat. Honey and lemon is a classic remedy for sore throats and now you can carry this delicious home remedy anyplace you go. Singers and speakers love these drops as well as anyone who enjoys the sweetness of honey and the tart taste of lemon. This recipe makes about 40 quarter-size drops.

  1. 3/4 cup sugar
  2. 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  3. 1/4 cup honey
  4. 10 drops lemon essential oil
  5. 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Combine corn syrup, honey, and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved and begins to boil. Let the mixture boil and do not stir while the temperature climbs to 300 degrees F or hard crack stage on your candy thermometer. Remove from heat and immediately stir in the lemon essential oil. Pour into greased candy molds and let harden for 30 minutes. Remove from molds and place lozenges in a bowl of powdered sugar and stir gently until each piece is coated. Store lozenges in a small tin or plastic bag.

To make a cherry and eucalyptus cough drop, replace the lemon essential oil with cherry candy flavoring oil and 10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil.
