Cuisinart Hand Blender Receives Mostly Good Reviews

October 7th, 2009

cuisinart-smartstick-hand-blender.jpgA brief perusal of the Amazon.com listings earlier today revealed that the Cuisinart CSB-76 Smart Stick Hand Blender is currently the top selling product in the “Kitchen and Dining: Small Appliances” category and has remained in the top 100 for 1192 days (over 3 years). The strong sales record may be due to the fact that it is receiving mostly positive reviews from the Amazon customers, who have rated it with a maximum of five stars in 228 of 321 cases with an overall average rating of four and a half stars. The price has also been marked down to $29.95, which is lower than the price of other similar products that I have seen so far.

Hand blenders are convenient appliances that can mix ingredients together with more vigor than a spoon while retaining a high degree of portability and ease of use. Unlike conventional blenders, the motor and blades are contained in a single apparatus, which is then moved around amongst the ingredients to do the blending. There is no need to place the ingredients in a separate bowl or pitcher. Some models such as the Cuisinart CSB-77 Smart Stick Hand Blender also include a chopper, whisk, and measuring bowl. They are usually powered from a standard electrical outlet and plugged in with a cord ranging from three to six feet long, although cordless models also exist.

When buying a hand blender, it is desirable to look for one that is made from material that will not stain or rust, for example stainless steel or chrome. Remember that these devices are often called “immersion blenders” because are immersed in food or liquid during the mixing process, which means that inferior plastic models are susceptible to staining and cracking with repeated use. Moreover, blades or other essential metal components that are not stainless steel may develop rust problems over time. Fortunately, the Cuisinart smartstick blenders mentioned above are available in brushed chrome with stainless steel blades.

The Amazon reviewers seem favorably impressed by the Cuisinart hand blender overall. They have reported success in using it for blending broccoli soups, mashed potatoes, smoothies, whipped cream, baby food, guacamole, mayonnaise, and several other concoctions. It also seems to do well with crushing ice. After looking at the less favorable reviews, it seems that a few people had problems with the chopper attachments after using the product for several months. Some people reported that although the casing and blade of the hand blender was made of stainless steel, some of the gears inside the unit were made of plastic, leading to problems after extended periods of use.

Others mentioned that the value of the warranty may be questionable because they were required to ship the old product back to the company when ordering a replacement, causing the customer to pay shipping charges that were a significant portion of the original cost of the product. Overall the satisfaction rate was high, however, and most people seemed to believe that the Cuisinart Smart Stick hand blender was a good deal considering the relatively low price.
