Making Money Online: 5 Tips to Get Started

how-to-make-money-online.JPGThe Internet has really revolutionized the way people live and work. It is now possible to buy and sell anything at the click of a button. You can live anywhere in the world and know everything that is going on at the other side of the planet as long as you have a phone line or other type of Internet connection.

Working or conducting business is also a lot easier because you can do all the operations online from one single place. Documents like contracts, checks, and reports are replaced by electronic versions which can be sent instantaneously to as many contacts as you want.

Many people have started to grasp the basic concepts of making money online and are quitting their jobs and starting their own small businesses or just work from the comfort of their home for the highest paying employer. This article will give you an idea of how anyone, no matter what his or her specialization is, can make money online working as a freelancer (an independent contractor who works for the highest bidder).

Some people think that very few professions can be adapted for making money online, and that is a very limiting belief that stops them from at least trying. The truth is that most, if not all, jobs and specializations can be used for working on the Internet and generating income directly or indirectly.

The simplest examples of people who can directly convert their job from offline employment to being a self-employed freelancer are writers, programmers, coaches, designers, and others whose main work consists of providing information and ideas. They can easily quit their day job and start working for anyone they like, anytime they want, most of the time for a higher income than they could ever think of getting at their old job.

But if you are not one of those people, and your work is physical (for example, car assemblers, farmers, construction workers, etc.), you can still make money online, although the process is a bit more complicated and you’ll have to be more creative. For example, if you are a farmer, you can start a site advising people how to care for their crops or garden plants and log your daily life online. If you think no one is interested in this stuff, you couldn’t be more wrong.

There are literally millions of people searching for this kind of information every month! Maybe they have a small garden or maybe they are interested in how farmers live; it doesn’t really matter as long as the information you provide is relevant to them. What is important is that they will find your site. All you have to do then is partner with a store to give you a commission every time someone buys a product based on your recommendation (some seeds, for example). This is not as hard as it sounds, but you do have to learn a bit about how everything works.

Explaining all the details is beyond this article’s purpose, so here are a few of the most profitable ways that people in very different areas of specialization can use to make money online:

1. Start a site depicting your daily life. This can work very well if you have an unusual or interesting profession (FBI or CIA agent, farmer, oil rig worker, doctor, weapons manufacturer, pilot, etc.) or you can make it seem so by using a few creative tricks like you see on TV. Just look at all the reality TV shows about doctors, hunters, racers, travelers, and other professions that seem to lend themselves to the production of daily or weekly drama. They get quite a number of views on their channel and are very profitable, otherwise they would never air. The Internet has a surprisingly low number of these, even though thousands of people would be very interested in watching or reading about them.

2. Start a site explaining how to do stuff. If you are skilled at something, you are automatically fit to teach others how to do it. These types of sites are more profitable than the ones in the above category, simply because they provide useful information and not just entertainment. If you know how to sharpen knives or import cheap goods from China, you can tell everyone about it and make a commission from every product sold through your recommendation by your partners (who sell knife sharpening tools and cheap goods from China).

3. Sell your physical goods online. If you produce, for example, unique exclusive leather wallets, you can make a lot more money selling them online using eBay, uBid, and various other auctions and marketplaces. I brought up this example because I saw firsthand how a company from Tennessee increased their sales tenfold by starting to sell their wallets on eBay worldwide. Meanwhile, companies like Cheness, Inc. make a lot of money selling their swords online (and producing them in China, which is very cheap).

4. Be a middleman. You can easily find a company in China or India (on sites like alibaba.com and china.cn) who produces, for example, ink and high yield toner cartridges, then contact a local store or company who would be interested in selling them and get a percentage of all sales. People in the US and Canada pay 3-4 times the price of a new toner cartridge, so you can easily make a lot of money by selling them cheaper (a toner cartridge straight from the factory in China costs $15-25, while people pay $60-120 for one in the US).

5. Get paid to write articles, blog and forum posts, books and anything in between. The Internet is built on text, and writing services will never cease to exist even though audio and video seems to take over. There’s a $100+ billion market for writing services in North America alone, and anything at least remotely high quality sells like fresh bread. You can also translate your written documents between 2 or more languages you know (there’s also much less competition here, so you can make even more money).

These are only five examples which anyone can use to make money online. You can take any one of these, make a good plan, and most importantly act upon it and you will succeed in your quest for more freedom AND more income.
