Places of Interest in New York City

January 26th, 2010

new-york-city.jpgNew York City is one of the largest and most famous cities in the world. Because there is so much to see and do here, you may not know what to do first. If you are planning to go to New York City then here are a few tips for where to see some of the most popular attractions.

Central Park: This is definitely one on the list to see. This is a famous park as it has been introduced in many films and the TV series Friends. The park itself is 4 miles long and about 2 miles wide. Once you enter Central Park, it feels like you are not in a big city anymore as it peaceful and quiet. You will see spectacular scenes of the city’s buildings surrounding the area along with massive lakes near the park’s center. If you are planning to visit Central Park, I would recommend taking half a day if you want to see all of the major sections.

Empire State Building: From the ground floor it is an amazing building just to look at. There are many tourists who visit this building so it is wise to see it during the week and especially on a warm day if possible. If you go during the winter, it will likely be cold and windy. The minimum floor height that visitors can get to for free is the 86th floor; it is possible to go higher but you have to pay extra. Once you get out on the 86th floor you will see that the views are amazing. It is definitely worth taking your camera as you will see several interesting perspectives of different parts of the city and the Empire State Building will allow you to go all the way around it.

Brooklyn Bridge: This is one of the most amazing bridges because its height and placement allow you to see the city in a way that is difficult to do otherwise. Walking across the bridge is the most common way for tourists to experience it. You do not have to pay anything for the crossing, which is a bonus as you get to see the city from quite far away and it is just breathtaking to walk the bridge. Once you have made it to the other side, I would recommend staying in Brooklyn for a while as it feels completely different from New York City.

These are just 3 main places of interest in New York City. If you would like to know more about where to go in the Big Apple or the prices of the most popular tourist attractions then you can look at some other relevant travel sites and start planning your trip to New York.
