Filezilla 3.1 FTP Client

February 24th, 2010

filezilla-ftp.jpgThis stable, intuitive FTP client is yet another excellent product from the prolific open source community. Boasting a truly intuitive Explorer-style twin-pane tabbed interface, it enables secure file transfers to and from multiple servers simultaneously, drag-and-drop support, filename filters, remote file editing, keep-alive, and a host of other advanced features.

Directory caching enhances blisteringly swift performance, and automatic transfer speed adjustment helps you manage bandwidth allocation based on date or time of day. Manage your connections either through Site Manager, or on-the-fly using the QuickConnect feature. Robust security is assured through support for proxy connections and firewalls including SSL and Kerberos GSS.

Retaining a common interface across operating systems is easy too, with binaries available for Windows, Linux, BSD, and Mac OS X. And in the unlikely event you need support beyond the onboard help, check out the program’s home page at filezilla-project.org, where you’ll find full project documentation including source code, multi-lingual help, and an active and helpful community on the forum. Advanced users will also appreciate the possibilities offered by the Windows server download.

This is a serious, well-supported piece of code with a good track record and a stable lifecycle. And as ever with open source software, free really means free - full functionality, no nag screens, and no sneaky adware installing itself behind your back.
