Blogging Your Way to Riches

March 7th, 2010

make-money-blogging.jpgFrom looking at the number of blogs on the Internet, it is no surprise that people are making money from them. In fact, some people are making a lot of money from them. The concept that you can make a handsome living for giving your opinion can be confusing. It may seem like a scam, or too good to be true. What people don’t know is that it takes a lot of upfront work to get a blog off the ground.

Imagine a world where you would only work a few hours per day and make more money than ever. This is the long term reality behind blogging. You may notice that some blogs are only updated once per week or once per month. There are two reasons driving this. When blogging, you don’t want to force posts just because you think you have to. When you have something unique and interesting to say then write it. This is the only way to retain subscribers to your RSS feed. People have short attention spans, and if you start to get boring, you will lose them. Another reason is that many bloggers operate more than one blog. If you only have to work on one blog for a couple hours per week, why not run a couple?

While maintaining a successful blog is an easy way to earn a living, it is not easy to get a blog off the ground. Laying the foundation of a successful blog will take a lot of hard work. Your first posts should be revolutionary. If you provide some jaw-dropping posts in the beginning, it will be easier to build a following. You will need to promote your blog, develop backlinks and increase your search engine rankings. For most blogs, keyword research is also a good idea. Finding a niche keyword to exploit will get your blog listed higher in the search rankings more quickly than any backlinking efforts. Finding a good niche can be done using the Google Adwords Keyword Finder. Develop inbound links by article marketing, blog posting, and forum posting. If what you have to say is interesting enough, this approach will also net you subscribers.

When first starting a blog, it may be difficult to decide how to make it appealing to readers in that genre. A good approach is to research other blogs in the same genre and emulate their style. You don’t want to be a copycat, but you want to keep it pleasing to your demographic. After the initial style is set up, you should decide on where to place the advertisements on your site. This is how blogs make money. They are basically Internet billboards. Google Adsense and affiliate programs are where you will want to focus. If your blog is very product related, keep the Adsense down to a minimum and focus on the affiliate programs. If not, then Adsense is the way to go.

Maintaining a blog can be one of the most lucrative opportunities on the Web if you are determined enough to get it off the ground. Blogging is by no means a get rich quick scheme. It will take lots of legwork in the beginning, but when that legwork is done, you’re on easy street.

Blogging can be the key to success for those determined enough to stick with it. A good portion of the Internet is living comfortably from their blogging efforts. However, it wasn’t easy in the beginning.

You are totally right Chris, A blog can be lucrative but the initial groundwork has got to be done first & the correct keyword research too.
