One way to bypass having to pay for the cost of advertising is to use affiliates. Affiliates will promote your business and you will pay them a commission based on what they are able to sell. The goal of an affiliate program is to increase profits by pushing more sales and reducing advertising cost.

There are several ways to set up an affiliate program. Probably the most obvious way to do it is to host one on your website. You can post a link to your new self-run program somewhere near your site’s Terms of Use page. This will allow people to see what you have to offer and apply to be your affiliates. You will need to obtain some analytical software in order to be able to track their sales and pay them accordingly. This is an effective process used by larger businesses, but it may be too much work for a sole proprietor.

A way to get around hosting your own affiliate program is to join a network. Potential affiliates will be able to sign up for your program through the affiliate network that you join. Most of these sites have a rating system to classify the caliber of the affiliates. This way you can pick and choose the best potential clients based on their network ratings. These sites will also track your affiliates’ sales and pay them their commission.

Money is processed differently as well. You will pay the network and they will pay your affiliates. One of the conveniences of these networks is that you won’t have to cut checks for all of your different program members. This will reduce a lot of the hassle involved in running an affiliate program. Most networks will charge you a fee for their services, but this will be worth it when you consider the amount of time you would have to spend doing everything on your own.

Depending on what you are selling, Clickbank and Commission Junction are good options. Clickbank is an affiliate network that exists solely to sell digitally distributed electronic products, such as e-books. Meanwhile, Commission Junction focuses on companies that sell physical products and services. You should join one based on the kind of product that you are selling.

Internet marketing can be stressful and difficult at times, but if you utilize the millions of people who are willing to sell your product for you, the stress can be reduced. A properly set up affiliate program will increase your exposure, get your brand name known, and increase profits.
