Home Based Hair Care Tips

July 12th, 2010

hair-care-ideas.jpgHair is a vital element of our looks and health. A healthy body will have healthy hair. Many of us spend a lot on hair care at a salon. However, eating healthy and getting enough sleep are the first and foremost on the list. Meanwhile, with a few treatments at home, which do not require too much expenditure, you can make your hair look even more lustrous and well cared for. Like our skin, hair is of different types ranging from dry to normal to oily.

For Dry Hair:

Shampoos with lanolin or Vaseline bases work best for dry hair, along with egg shampoos.

Using a good hair conditioner is necessary. For shampoos and conditioners, trial and error is the best method to determine one that suits you.

Hot oil treatments with oils like olive and coconut oil are very beneficial. Massage the oil into your scalp and leave it overnight.

Steaming oiled hair with a hot damp towel opens up the pores on your scalp.

The alkaline levels of the scalp rise with time, and rinsing your hair with a slightly acidic solution like two spoons of cosmetic vinegar mixed with water for your last rinse will remove it.

Brush your hair often. It opens the pores of the scalp and stimulates oil glands.

For Oily Hair:

Shampooing every two days will keep your hair oil free. However, shampoo only once at a time. Lathering up more than once at a time stimulates oil glands in the scalp and leads to even more oily hair.

Use lukewarm or cool water rather than hot water.

Do not use a conditioner or hair gloss products very often.

Rinsing your hair with a slightly acidic solution like two spoons of cosmetic vinegar mixed with water for your last rinse is a good idea. However, do not let the scalp be treated too closely with this solution.

Curing Dandruff Related Problems

Dandruff cannot be fully removed. It can only be reduced for three or four days when it returns. So it is important to repeat treatments over time.

Hot oil treatments with oils like olive and coconut oil can be very effective when it comes to removing dandruff. Massage the oil into your scalp and leave it overnight. The following morning, apply lemon juice to your hair an hour before shampooing. Do this once a week, no more.

You can also choose to use a light hair oil in meager quantities on your scalp after shampooing. Use very little of it so it does not get into your hair.

Conditioners

Conditioners contribute to shining, lustrous, healthy-looking hair while also untangling them easily after shampooing. You can use any conditioner that suits you from the market, or you can use used tea leaves, flat beer or apple cider vinegar. Used tea leaves should be boiled again in enough water, and the water used after cooling. Flat beer should be used for conditioning oily hair. Beer makes hair drier, so people with dry hair should not use it. Apple cider vinegar is supposed to work wonders on one’s hair. Mix one part of the vinegar with three parts of water. Wash your hair with enough water after using a conditioner so that all of it is washed off.
